Masked raider threatened staff behind the counter at post office before fleeing the premises

- JONATHAN WATSON

Police swooped on a Fife village yesterday following a robbery at a post office.

A masked raider entered the branch in Kinglassie shortly after 2pm and is understood to have threatened staff before fleeing the premises on the Main Street.

It is unknown whether any money was taken, however, police confirmed that nobody had been injured in the incident.

Shopkeeper Zeeshan Ahmad said he had spoken to a member of staff, adding: “The police came in and told me about the robbery.

“I’ve got CCTV and they then told me that someone had been at the post office.”

Mr Zeeshan continued that he believed the perpetrator would not be from within the local community, adding: “Everyone knows everyone around here.”

A single police officer was stationed outside of the small post office building following the incident, with a line of tape surrounding the premises.

The post office is scheduled to close on Tuesday January 30, moving to the McColl’s supermarket just yards away.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife are investigating following a report of robbery at the post office in Kinglassie Main Street.

“The incident was reported to police around 2.15pm on Thursday January 18.

“Officers are in attendance and are currently establishing the full circumstances.”

Yesterday’s raid is the third such event to take place in the area in recent weeks.

Two branches of RS McColl in nearby Glenrothes were targeted within an hour of each other on January 2.

Two men have since been arrested in connection with the raids on the Parbroath Road and North Street stores after leaving empty-handed.

Anyone with information on this latest incident is asked by Police Scotland to contact officers at Kirkcaldy CID on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
