A record number of Salers cattle are being marketed at next month’s pedigree bull sales in Stirling.

Of the 962 animals booked for the sales, there will be 44 Salers bulls and 25 females, and the first official sale of Lincoln Reds will also take place at the event.

The judges have been announced for next month’s Stirling Bull Sales by event organisers United Auctions.

The event kicks off on Sunday and Monday February 4-5, when the breeds on offer are Aberdeen-Angus, Limousin, British Blue, Beef Shorthorn, Lincoln Red, Hereford and Luing.

Pre-sale shows of Aberdeen-Angus and Beef Shorthorn are planned for the Sunday, followed by sales of all breeds and a pre-sale show of Limousins on the Monday.

This includes the part dispersal of the Perthshire-based Coldrochie herd of Beef Shorthorns from Douglas McMillan who is retiring.

The autumn-calving portion of the herd – 27 lots – will go under the hammer, and the spring calving portion will be dispersed in May.

The second stage of the sales takes place from Sunday February 18 to Tuesday February 20, when Simmental, Salers and Charolais are on offer.

Pre-sale shows of Simmental and Salers are planned for the Sunday, followed by a sale of those breeds on the Monday and a pre-sale show of Charolais entries.

The Charolais sale takes place on the Tuesday.

There will also be a major reduction of the Woodhall herd, comprising 55 lots, from the late Hector Macaskill, on the morning of February 19.

The judges at the event include Inverness breeder Anne MacPherson of Blackford Farm, Croy, who will judge the Simmental entries.

Aberdeen-Angus cattle will be judged by Alan Morrison of The Acre, Drummeer, Maguiresbridge; Beef Shorthorns will be assessed by Carey Coombs of Weston Farm, Dunsyre, Carnwath; Limousins will be judged by Ian Nimmo of Bogside Farm, Newmains, Wishaw; and the Salers by Alisdair Davidson, Poldean, Wamphray, Moffat.

The Charolais judge is Arwel Owen, Tynewydd, Garthbeibio, Welshpool.
