Callum’s teen spirit is a genuine inspiration

-

There is no shortage of negative coverage given to the exploits of younger members of society. In this digital age, a whole new raft of issues have arisen, with online bullying, sexting and exploitation among the many issues that take up column inches.

Against such a sorry backdrop it is a pleasure indeed to report on a local youth who, despite a tough start in life, is making the most of the limited opportunities he has been given.

Callum Christie is harnessing the power of technology to break free from the shackles of his past.

The 17-year-old is becoming something of an internet star with his music videos and regular video blogs.

The son of drug addicts, Callum’s formative years were far from easy.

Going off the rails would have been understandable in such circumstances, but Callum has remained resolutely ambitious.

Now he wants something good to come from the trauma of his youth and is speaking out in a bid to inspire others who may be struggling with similar issues.

It is a bold and brave decision that will surely reap benefits – both for Callum himself and many others.

Adults preaching to perhaps troubled young people is one thing, hearing an inspirational message from a peer and one who can genuinely empathise is likely to carry so much more weight.
