Kane confident Saints can turn corner despite winless streak
Chris Kane is adamant St Johnstone will soon get the results their performances merit after slipping to a smash-and-grab defeat against Hearts.
The Perth Saints dominated a thoroughly watchable clash in Gorgie and created a swathe of opportunities, with no-one cutting a more frustrated figure than Kane, who struck the bar, rippled the side netting and was denied by Jambos keeper Jon McLaughlin.
Scott Tanser, Blair Alston and David Wotherspoon, who was dismissed in the second half by referee Andrew Dallas, also came close during what boss Tommy Wright described as their best performance of the campaign so far.
Yet they left Tynecastle pointless following David Milinkovic’s strike and, despite defeating Albion Rovers
4-0 in the Scottish Cup last week, have now gone five successive Premiership fixtures without a triumph, with their last league win coming against Rangers at Ibrox on December 16.
“Everyone is frustrated as I thought we played well and created loads of chances,” said Kane.
“It is disappointing as we had a few opportunities and their keeper has made some great saves. I’ve had a few chances myself and also hit the bar. We kept pushing even in the second half but it just starting to feel like it wasn’t going to be our day.
“We are not on a great run but we played well against Albion and we did well against Hearts on Saturday.
“We know we are a strong squad and we will bounce back. I’m sure we will start to get the results our performances deserve.”
While an ultimately disappointing afternoon for Kane, it was a second successive start for the striker following his return from a loan stint at Queen of the South – and he is determined to hold on to his shirt for tomorrow afternoon’s trip to Motherwell.
“I’m back at the club to try and play every week,” he continued.
“I will keep working my socks off to stay in the team. I am playing just now and I want to keep the jersey for as long as I can.”
