Heavy defeat rounds off bad week for Broughty

-

A tough week for Broughty Athletic continued at Broxburn with the Whitton Park side going down 4-0 in the Super League.

After manager Jim Finlayson stepped down following last week’s defeat at home to Dundonald, Jamie McCunnie took charge of the side with Tony McAuley, Chris McPherson and Steven Tweed helping out in the dug-out.

Broxburn led 1-0 at the break from a Gordon Donaldson goal and Alex Murray made it two on the hour, slamming home a Kieran Anderson cross.

Craig Scott scored the third from the penalty spot after Ryan Suttie fouled Zander Millar and, with the last kick of the game, Anderson beat two defenders before smashing the ball past Sinclair from a narrow angle.

Dundonald Bluebell had to come from behind to beat Newtongrange Star at Moorside Park but they did it in style, scoring three in the last 20 minutes.

Dale O’Hara put the visitors in front with a trademark free kick after 12 minutes before Bluebell equalised on 70 minutes. The Fifers went in front on 88 minutes and capped off the win with a third in stoppage time.

Transfer-listed Callum Smith scored twice and Lewis McKenzie netted the third for Stevie Kay’s side

Lochee United were unfortunate not to take something from their game against league leaders Bonnyrigg Rose at Thomson Park.

However, United contributed to their own downfall. A cross from Lee Currie was fumbled and Ross Gray stabbed the

ball home to give Rose the lead on 33 minutes and then on 55 minutes Wayne McIntosh made it two after a mix up.

Scott McComiskie pulled a goal back for Lochee on the hour and the home side then had a goal disallowed for offside but they couldn’t quite manage an equaliser.

Penicuik Athletic enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 win over Kennoway Star Hearts at Penicuik Park.

Arran Ponton put the hosts in front after 10 minutes and Lumbert Kateleza doubled the advantage before the break.

Liam Rolland pulled a goal back just after half-time but Sam Jones restored the two-goal cushion on 71 with a defected shot. Ponton added his second and Penicuik’s fourth with a blockbuster of a free-kick with 15 minutes to go.
