A “Superman” attacker who knocked another man unconscious in an Angus nightclub is being sought by police.

The 52-year-old victim suffered a number of facial fractures and loss of vision following the attack in the early-hours of Sunday morning.

The man’s attacker was wearing a Superman T-shirt and had tattoos on both biceps along with a Chinese symbol on his left arm.

The incident happened at DeVito’s Nightclub in Arbroath’s Millgate.

Arbroath East and Lunan Conservative councillor Derek Wann said he was horrified to hear what had happened,

He said: “I would urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to the police.

“This is a serious incident which cannot be tolerated.

“No one should expect to go on a night out and be assaulted.

“Things like this are uncommon as De Vito’s is a well-run club.”

The popular nightclub is open four nights a week with resident DJs and drinks promotions.

A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said the “serious assault” happened shortly after 2am.

He said: “A 52-year-old man was assaulted and knocked unconscious by another man.

“He also suffered a number of facial fractures and loss of vision as a result.

“Officers would like to trace a man described as white, in his twenties, about 6ft in height who was wearing a Superman T-shirt and has tattoos on both biceps along with a Chinese symbol on his left arm.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was within the club and saw this incident take place.

“If you have any information which could assist our enquiries, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.

“Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is CR/2811/18.”

The nightclub recently hit the headlines when details of a depraved initiation ceremony were played out in court.

A group of Royal Marines were thrown out of the military after admitting to public indecency in front of shocked revellers in the club’s smoking area.
