Robb steals show and helps Pride see off Cardiff Archers

-

Arbroath’s Hannah Robb stole the show as she lead Caledonia Pride to a 73-63 away victory over Cardiff Archers in the Women’s BBL at the weekend.

The former Musketeer clinched the win over a stubborn Cardiff side with a storming last quarter.

She finished with her best stats yet for Scotland’s only women’s pro team, top-scoring for the first time with 20 points and contributing an outstanding 27 minutes of court-time for the slightly lacklustre Pride.

Scoring eight field goals, including four from eight threepoint attempts for an impressive 50%, the second-year Edinburgh University student added six rebounds and an assist and did not commit a single turnover.

For the first time the young Scottish guard shaded Pride’s mainstay, US centre Tricia Oakes, who had another “double double”, 15 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and three assists, but also had four turnovers.

“She’s starting to find her confidence and show what she’s about,” said Robb’s delighted former club coach Donnie MacDonald.

MacDonald still managed to find time to return to coach Muskies to a vital 49-41 win over the Lady Rocks in the Scottish Women’ League at Grove Academy. Yhana Van Wees top-scored with 14 points.

Edinburgh Kats clinched the women’s title despite a 67-71 loss to Edinburgh University, while St Mirren sealed the men’s title with a 107-99 home win over Boroughmuir Blaze.

In the same league Dunfermline Reign bounced back to form with a big 102-73 home win over Glasgow Storm.

Perth Phoenix suffered defeats to Ayrshire Tornadoes and Heriot-Watt University in their division two title chase.
