1966 Aston Martin DB6 expected to fetch up to £210,000

-

A rare 1966 Aston Martin DB6 that has been kept in a garage for nearly 40 years could fetch up to £210,000 at auction next month.

The car was owned by a retired vet from Perthshire, whose father was one of two policemen detailed to look after security when royals were in residence at Glamis Castle.

Finished in Silver Birch, the same livery as the iconic DB5 driven by Sir Sean Connery’s 007 in 1964 film Goldfinger, the four-seater grand tourer has covered just 81,000 miles from new.

Having been in the same ownership since 1972, it has been cared for in a garage since 1979.

The car, which had a top speed of 150mph, will be sold by specialist auctioneers H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on March 21.

One of only 1,327 MKI versions produced, it is estimated it will attract bids of £170,000-210,000.

Damian Jones, head of sales for H&H Classics, said: “Few marques inspire as much loyalty and admiration as Aston Martin.

“Even so, it is highly unusual to encounter a DB6 that has been in single ownership for 46 years.

“The Aston Martin DB6 was the successor to the James Bond DB5, and is almost indistinguishable from the front.

“It is a very classical hand-built British grand tourer.

“They were extremely expensive when new and were quick – there weren’t many things on the road that could outrun a DB6.

“It would be nice if the car’s next custodian proves to be as devoted as its current owner.”

The Aston Martin DB6 was launched in 1965 to replace the DB5.

Although it was similar in appearance, it performed even better thanks to improved aerodynamics and was praised for its “poise and handling”.

The car, which cost £4,998 new and travelled from 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, remained in production until 1970 and was succeeded by the Aston Martin DBS.

Of the 1,575 DB6 MKI and MKII cars made by Aston Martin, only 478 are still recorded on the DVLA’s database.
