Muirhead medals would mean change of decor at chippy

-

Fans of Perthshire curling star Eve Muirhead are to paint the town – or more accurately their local chippy – gold, silver or bronze if she and her brothers are successful in the Winter Olympics.

Bosses at Blair Atholl’s Food in the Park have vowed to match the eatery’s decor to any medal won by the trio.

Eve, who won bronze at Sochi in 2014, will skip the women’s team, while her brothers Thomas and Glen will be part of the men’s rink.

Food in the Park owners Sally Judd and David Mckenzie regularly serve members of the family and will be heading to South Korea to support the clan.

They have vowed that on their return the chippy will be decked out in a metallic colour scheme to represent any medals won by the trio.

Sally said: “What a historic moment. Three members of the same family – Eve, Thomas and Glen – representing their country in the Olympics in the same year.

“Forget letterboxes, we have decided to paint our restaurant doors and pillars whatever colour of medal they win.”

David said the sibling’s triumphs had meant a change to their holiday plans.

“Sally and I had been talking about going on a skiing trip somewhere in Europe,” he said.

“We were over at the Ptarmigan guest house (owned by the curlers’ parents) on January 2 and we got talking to Rory Cameron, who farms round here and whose father has the museum side by side with us. The result was we came up with a mad plan of going to the Winter Olympics in South Korea instead.

“We are awaiting a batch of ‘Curly Army’ rugby tops being delivered so we can all support the Team GB curlers in good style.

“The Team GB lads are sixth or seventh best curlers in the world, so if they play well I think they’ve got every chance is getting a medal.”

The opening ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympics, which are being held in PyeongChang, takes place tomorrow.
