LGBT campaign for Perthshire

-

Plans are being drawn up to make Perth and Kinross more welcoming to members of the LGBT community.

Window stickers could be distributed to establishments to let customers know the premises are supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights.

It is one option being looked into as part of a campaign led by Perth and Kinross Council.

A spokeswoman said: “The council is currently working with both the LGBT community and a number of licensed premises in Perth and Kinross to develop a scheme to help raise awareness of which premises are acknowledged as being LGBT-friendly and that anyone can access and feel safe to be themselves.”

She said: “An independent survey is currently being conducted called ‘Life in Perth and Kinross for the LGBT community’ and we are awaiting these survey results.

“We hope that the information gathered as part of the survey will help assist the discussions taking place about how we can move forward and ensure that everyone feels welcome in Perth and Kinross and at licensed premises within our region.”

A series of events are planned for the area as part of LGBT History month.

Perth Museum and Art Gallery will host a “pink heritage day” on Tuesday, February 20 with displays, stalls and film screenings.
