ONE GALLERY'S COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE

-

As a slew of smaller galleries have struggled and recently closed in a highly competitive art market, new ventures are cropping up, too. Joining the mix of contemporary art galleries in the historic town of St Andrews is Sproson Gallery and Framers, which opened in December in an historic building at 138 South Street, the former home of Rummage gift store. Since 1981, A & M Sproson Picture Framers, have operated a family-run bespoke custom picture framing workshop on Gregory Place and the new Contemporary Art Gallery will pull together threads of the family’s successful framing business. Having worked with a wide and diverse clientele from artists to museums, owner Christopher Sproson now aims to create a conversation among artworks from different genres. There is an emphasis on combining established and emerging talent with an exceptional trove of works by local artists such as Liz Yule, Susan Forsyth, Pat Holland and Paul Bartlett, as well as internationally-acclaimed artists such as sculptor Alison Bell and painter Sigrid Shone. The gallery will also display hand-painted ceramics and contemporary jewellery by young local artists as well as a selection of limited edition prints and mixed media. Importantly, it will retain the traditional aims of the Sproson brand in offering a variety of-art related services including quality in-house custom framing and design, art consultation, restoration and installation, alongside an energetic and diverse selection of contemporary art exhibition programming throughout the year. The gallery will mount exhibitions – including solo shows – on a tri-annual basis with a price range to cater to every budget and taste. In the spirit of its founding, and as the gallery continues to grow, its commitment to excellence and quality will remain unwavering. Sproson Gallery and Framers can also be accessed online via the website www. sprosongallery.com where all products and works of art are available to purchase with shipping options for our national and international customer base.
