Fifers boss ponders tactics for Spiders

East Fife are looking to build on their 1-0 win at Stranraer last weekend by getting the better of visitors Queen’s Park for the first time in 10 games.

Bayview boss Darren Young said: “It was great to get three points at Stair Park and to keep a clean sheet. It was a very welcome and a very deserved win.

“We defended set-pieces well and hopefully that is something we will continue doing.”

Young admitted that a change in tactics helped achieve that success. However, he may not use the same approach against the Spiders.

He explained: “We changed things around a bit last weekend and went with a 4-4-2 formation to give us an extra man in midfield and that worked well.

“One of the reasons for making that change was that I anticipated the game getting bogged down on a heavy pitch and that is exactly how it panned out.

“I am tempted to stick with that approach against Queen’s Park, especially as they usually have five players in their midfield.

“However, our pitch is not an issue and the play will switch from end to end quicker than it did last weekend so it is not a definite.”

The last time East Fife tasted success against the Hampden side was back in August 2015 in a League Two clash with Young adding: “We have had disappointing results against Queen’s Park this season and I have been made aware that for the past few seasons they have been a bit of a bogey team.

“Hopefully we will be much more competitive this time out and get the right result.”

Craig Thomson remains out with a broken wrist and Mark Docherty is an injury doubt but Chris Duggan is expected to be available.

Chris Duggan, who is expected to be available today, in action against Hearts at the start of the season.
