Robertson wants promotion on CV
Midfielder hoping to make it third time lucky with Stark’s Park men
Raith’s Scott Robertson has lifted the Scottish Cup and played for his country but he admits there is one glaring omission from his playing CV – winning promotion.
He has tried without success so far during his time at Dundee and Hibs so he is hoping it will be third time lucky with Rovers.
The Kirkcaldy side are currently five points clear at the top of the League 1 table and with second placed Ayr on Scottish duty this weekend, they could extend that advantage to eight points if they beat Airdrie at Stark’s Park this afternoon.
And the 32-year-old midfielder will be doing all in his power to help the team take another big step towards achieving the club’s – and his – promotion dream.
He said: “I never went up with Dundee during three years in the old First Division.
“The last season was the closest we came when we had a real title race with Hamilton.
“I also had an unsuccessful promotion push with Hibs when we ended up being beaten by Rangers in the play-offs which was disappointing.
“So promotion is something I have never achieved in my career.
“When I sat down in the summer and I decided to stay at Raith Rovers, I thought it was something that was a realistic ambition this season.
“Obviously the stage of my career that I am at, I was going to give myself the chance of winning a league title.
“We are under no illusions how difficult that will be this season with Ayr doing so well also.
“But I am determined to give it a go and hopefully I can get one of those wee winner’s medals.
“It would be something to be really proud of.”
Raith will also be looking to extend this season’s unbeaten home league record when Airdrie come calling.
Robertson added: “That is something to be proud of and we have shown no mercy at all.
“We have had this attitude that no matter who is coming here we are prepared for whatever is going to be thrown at us.
“I think even when you look at when Dundee came here in the League Cup, we more than matched them and were unfortunate to concede two late goals to lose out.
“Whoever has come here they have had a tough game.
“We have a good run going at Stark’s Park and we want that to continue.”
Raith will be without Kevin McHattie who has a knee injury.
