McColgan disappointed despite personal best
Dundee Hawkhill Harrier Eilish McColgan finished third at the World Indoor Grand Prix in Madrid.
The athlete contested the 1,500m following a long journey from the Iten training camp in Kenya to clock a personal indoor best of four minutes, 08.07 seconds.
Her time bettered her 4:19.99 when finishing second at the 2017 British indoor team trials in Sheffield.
McColgan said: “I’m happy with third but a little disappointed with my time.
“Coming from a 10km road personal best to the 1500m indoors certainly isn’t the easiest transition but I really enjoyed shocking my legs with some speed.
“I’m excited to get stuck into some more indoor races now.”
The next stop for McColgan will be the 3,000m at the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham next weekend.
● Dina Asher-Smith is feeling positive about how she is shaping up for April’s Commonwealth Games.
Almost exactly a year on from breaking her foot, Asher-Smith said: “I have two screws in my foot, and that’s just me now. It’s fine.
“We have an exciting year coming up with the Commonwealth Games, the European Championships, the athletics World Cup (the new event taking place in July) – loads of events, loads of opportunities to do well.
“I’m just really happy with how my training is going right now and looking forward to the rest of the year.”
Asher-Smith will not be taking part in next month’s World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, wrapping up her indoor season with the 60m event at the Glasgow Grand Prix on February 25 before heading out to Australia.
