Caledonian Marts Ltd had forward 2,748 prime hoggets, ewes and tups, in conjunctio­n with the annual show and sale of prime Blackface hoggets. A total of 1,950 prime hoggets averaged 202.2ppkg (+5p on the week) (+35.2p on the year). Heavy hoggets averaged £101.72 (+£6.22 on the week). The judge was Bill MacKinnon of Scotbeef. His 40.5kg champion came from East Bracklinn, Callander and made £85. The reserve champion from Burnshot weighed 46.5kg and sold for £94. Up to 40kg: 1 Auchenboth­ie Farms – 37kg, £70 or 189ppkg; 2 Remony Estates – 39.5kg, £77.50 or 196ppkg; 3 Glenturret Estates – 37.5kg £68.50 or 183ppkg 40.1kg-44kg: 1 East Bracklinn – 40.5kg, £85 or 210ppkg; 2 Remony Estates – 42kg, £87.50 or 208ppkg. 44.1kg+: 1 Burnshot – 46.5kg, £94 or 202ppkg; 2 T & M Paterson, Dunruchan – 49kg, £98 or 200ppkg. Top price of the day went to Ian Campbell, Meikle Seggie, for a 62kg Texel hogget at £115. Top price per kg went to AM Duncan, Easter Dullatur, for a pair of 40.5kg Beltex at 247ppkg. Leading prices: Beltex X £113 and £110 Craigend; Texel £111 Dunruchan; Beltex £111 and £110 Cuiltburn; Texel X £110 Easter Ochtermuth­ill; Cont £108 Easter Buchlyvie; Cont X £108 Airthrey Kerse; Suff £106 Port of Tummel; Suff X £104 Ampherlaw; Mule £95.50 Coulshill; BF £100 Dunruchan. Also forward were 798 cast ewes and tups. Heavy ewes (248) averaged £79.97 selling to £130 for a Texel from PJ & C Wood, Knockhill, Strathkinn­ess. Export ewes (303) averaged £39.38. A total of 41 cast tups averaged £80.32 selling to £118 for a Texel X from HC Maitland, Grange of Lindores, Newburgh.
