Fife Flyers snapped a disappointing twogame losing run with a 3-0 victory over Edinburgh Capitals at Murrayfield last night.

The nightmare continues for the Edinburgh men, however, as they slipped to their 37th defeat of the season.

Liam Heelis netted a double with Shayne Stockton scoring the other goal, leaving Capitals with only four wins in 41 league fixtures.

The sides blanked the first session and it took until the 32nd minute for Stockton to break the deadlock after being set-up by Charlie Mosey.

Five minutes later it was Stockton who assisted Heelis with the second and Heelis scored his second unassisted after 49 minutes of a penalty-filled game in which the home side were outshot 44-27.

On Saturday, Coventry Blaze snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Flyers to hand coach Danny Stewart a welcome birthday present.

And Kirkcaldy-born forward Josh Scoon admitted they were outbattled by a team scrapping for points.

The 28-year-old admitted the home defeat was tough to swallow but said that on the balance of play Fife did not deserve to take the points.

Fife also lost at Belfast Giants on Friday and Scoon added: “You could blame the travel, but no excuses.

“It was not good enough and we got what we deserved. Stewey (Danny Stewart) had his team working hard and ultimately we got outbattled.”

Earlier, Ben Lake, after eight and 16 minutes, made it 2-0 for the visitors with Danick Gauthier pulling one back for Flyers after 25 minutes.

Brett Robinson netted for 3-1 after 50 minutes before Chase Schaber gave Fife hope with a goal 39 seconds later.

It only proved a consolation and the result is a jolt to Flyers hopes of finishing in the top three.

Meanwhile, Braehead Clan gave their play-off hopes a huge shot in the arm by doing the double over Dundee Stars.

Clan won 3-1 in Glasgow on Saturday before edging the second tussle 4-3 at Dundee Ice Arena last night.

Last night Stars opened the scoring through Brian Hart at 21:20.

But Clan were level when Adam Brace stole the puck and converted at 33:15.

They then went ahead through Brendan Brooks on 34:39.

Matt Haywood put Clan 3-1 up after his shot hit Fullerton before landing in the back of the net at 45:13.

And a mistake by Chris Lawrence allowed Brace to feed the puck to Brooks, who increased the lead to 4-1 at 47:52.

Carlson pulled a goal back when he blasted past Ryan Nie at 48:39 and the home side found another gear as Brian Hart and popped a shot over the shoulder of Nie to make it a one goal game at 53:26.

Despite a determined effort from Stars they couldn’t find an equaliser.
