Five to watch in PyeongChang
SKI-JUMPING Japan’s Sara Takanashi seeks Olympic redemption in the women’s normal hill competition. Takanashi went to Sochi four years ago as the dominant force in the sport, but had to settle for fourth place. Norway’s Maren Lundby starts as favourite to deny her again.
SNOWBOARD SLOPESTYLE
The delayed women’s snowboard slopestyle competition takes place at the Phoenix Snow Park. Strong winds postponed the qualifying round yesterday, sending every competitor including Britain’s Aimee Fuller straight through to the final.
ALPINE
Mikaela Shiffrin has her sights on multiple medals in Pyeongchang and the American, who won her first Olympic gold in the slalom in Sochi four years ago, begins her campaign in the women’s giant-slalom. Alex Tilley, pictured below, goes for Great Britain.
FREESTYLE
Denied by his compatriot Alexandre Bilodeau in Sochi, Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury has dominated men’s moguls in the interim period and starts as a big favourite to claim his first Olympic gold, although he will be pushed by Japan’s Ikuma Horishima.
LUGE
Germany is expected to continue its domination as the women’s luge gets under way. Natalie Geisenberger won double gold four years ago and her stiffest competition is set to come from compatriot Dajana Eitberger.
