Forfar West End proved to be tough opponents for McBookie.com East Super League leaders Bonnyrigg Rose in the clash at New Dundas Park – but ultimately the Angus outfit came away from the game with nothing despite matching their opponents for large spells of the game.

Kyle Wilson put Bonnyrigg in front just before the break when he drilled the ball home from a Lee Currie corner.

The visitors had a chance to level from the spot on 57 minutes but Gary Robertson’s kick was comfortably saved by Rose keeper Michael Andrews.

Bonnyrigg made sure of the points with a second on 75 minutes when Lewis Turner reacted quickest to nod the ball home after a Wilson shot looped up off the West End keeper.

Broughty Athletic put an end to their run of defeats to comfortably beat Bo’ness United at Whitton Park.

Kevin Milne seized on a Jamie Winter through ball to put Broughty in front after 20 minutes. Chris McPherson, making his debut, kept his side in the lead with a great save 10 minutes before halftime.

The home side made it 2-0 just before the hour-mark when Derryn Kesson hit a sweet volley from 12 yards into the back of the net.

However, player-manager Jamie McCunnie did nothing to help his side when he was shown two yellow cards in the space of six minutes and was sent off.

McCunnie’s side were galvanised and went further in front on 65 minutes when Winter scored from the spot after Kesson had been brought down.

Bo’ness pulled a goal back on 70 minutes when former Pollok man Allan McKenzie scored on his debut and then on 83 minutes the visitors thought they should have had a penalty but their appeals were turned down. Brian Clark made it 4-1 with a couple of minutes left to complete an impressive win.

Carnoustie Panmure’s run of victories came to an end as they went down 3-0 at home to Linlithgow Rose.

However, the talk from both managers after the game was of the poor performance of the officials.

Gary Thom headed the visitors in front on 33 minutes from a free-kick before Colin Strickland made it 2-0 just before the hour-mark.

The Gowfers saw Paddy Conway sent off for a second booking on 63 minutes before Linlithgow were awarded a controversial penalty on 88 minutes,

Alan Cormack appeared to win the ball cleanly at the feet of Blair Batchelor but the referee instantly pointed to the spot. Tommy Coyne made no mistake to make it 3-0.

Carnoustie were reduced to nine men in stoppage-time when Ewan Buggins received a second booking.

Hill of Beath recovered from going behind after just 57 seconds at home to Newtongrange Star.

Daniel Watt levelled it up for the Haws on 37 minutes and Calum Adamson made it 2-1 10 minutes into the second half.

The home side had to settle for a point though after Newtongrange scored from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining.

Kennoway Star Hearts were soundly beaten 6-0 at home by Camelon.

Ryan Kane put the Falkirk side in front on 14 minutes and two minutes later Alan Sneddon made it two.

Andy Kay put his side 3-0 in front two minutes before half-time and then Sneddon added his second to make it four. Kane scored his second early in the second period and Alan Docherty completed the rout five minutes from time.

The games between Dundonald Bluebell and Lochee United and Sauchie and Jeanfield Swifts were both postponed.

Premier League

In the McBookie.com East Premier League, Downfield thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Dalkeith Thistle, running out 5-0 victors.

Paul Blackwood helped himself to four of the goals with Lee Cameron scoring the other.

The win was vital for the Dundee side in their battle to avoid the drop with Whitburn winning at Bathgate Thistle.

With Fauldhouse United’s game at home to Thornton Hibs and Glenrothes against Musselburgh both being postponed, St Andrews United moved into second place with a 2-1 win over Kirrie Thistle at Barnetts Park.

St Andrews were reduced to 10 men on 55 minutes when Scott Main was sent off but they rallied in the closing stages.

All the goals came in the last 10 minutes. Derek Wallace and Scott Lawrie put Saints two ahead but it was a nervy last few minutes after Alan Cruikshank scored on 90 minutes.

Tayport had to come from behind at home to Arniston Rangers to claim a point in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors led at the break, thanks to an Andy Watson goal, but Tayport found an equaliser on the hour-mark when Connor Ireland headed home a Connor Gray cross.
