Young’s frustration over ‘terrible’ goals

EAST FIFE 0 QUEEN’S PARK 2

East Fife boss Darren Young will look at switching things up after his side misfired at Bayview.

Goals either side of the break from on-loan Hearts striker Aidan Kenna wrapped up a 2-0 win for Queen’s Park, helping them off the foot of the division.

Young said: “It’s very frustrating and for me it now opens the door for other players in the squad.

“I’ll assess that in midweek and look forward to the Ayr game.

“That’s nine points Queen’s Park have taken off us this season and they’ll be hoping they can play us every week.

“For us the nature of the goals is terrible.

“To go from the defensive performance of last week and the clean sheet to that is unacceptable.

“We had two good training sessions and the boys did well.

“It was short and sharp and you’re thinking everything is fine going into the game, but for whatever reason there’s a lull and we don’t have the desire.

“Nobody is helping each other out.”

Queen’s took the lead when Kenna burst through the Fife back line and beat Ryan Goodfellow.

The Methil men thought they were level when Chris Duggan found the back of the net.

However, referee Kevin Graham ruled it out for a foul in the buildup.

The Fifers had trouble breaking Queen’s down despite having the vast majority of possession.

Young introduced forwards Matthew Knox and Robert Jones. They added more attacking impetus but the pattern of the game remained with Queen’s defending well.

They were handed a chance to wrap up the win when Jonathan Page brought down David Galt inside the box.

Adam Cummins smashed his penalty kick down the middle but Goodfellow stood up well and beat his strike away.

The second goal wasn’t long in arriving, though, with Kenna curling a fine curling effort out of Goodfellow’s reach.
