Fears grow for missing former Perth student

HAMBURG: Family and friends increasingly worried after stag-do disappearance

- Mark mackay

A man who went missing in Hamburg during a stag weekend is a former Perth College student.

Family and friends have been left frightened and confused by the disappearance of 29-year-old Liam Colgan on Saturday.

The musician, now living in Inverness, was in Germany before his brother Eamonn’s wedding, at which he was to be best man.

Liam was last seen at around 1.30am in a bar in Hamburg’s popular Reeperbahn district and his disappearance has been described as “out of character”.

Police in Germany have been searching for him across the city, including in the harbour area, while the Foreign Office are liaising with his family.

A “Help Find Liam Colgan” Facebook page has been set up.

During his studies towards a BA (Hons) in Music in Perth, Liam played regularly in the city’s pubs and clubs.

Two men were still missing last night as mountain incidents in Scotland soared in the past week– prompting police to issue a warning to walkers and climbers.

Rescuers have been called out 14 times in the past seven days to incidents, including one fatality.

Police were alerted at 3.50pm on Sunday to reports of a 55-year-old climber having fallen on Beinn a’ Chaorainn, on the northern side of Glen Spean.

Meanwhile, Police Scotland confirmed there were no plans to resume the search for Neil Gibson, from Nairn, until there is “significant snow melt”, indicating that the 63-yearold may have been buried under an avalanche.

The body of his brother Alan, 56, who lived in north Cumbria, was found at the weekend.
