Harris suffer at hands of Strathie

-

Strathmore bounced back from a defeat at Alloa the previous week with an impressive 72-7 win over Harris at Elliott Road to remain second in the BT Caledonia Division One league table.

The visitors raced from the blocks and Darren Bell opened the scoring for the Forfar side through a first minute touchdown, with Lee Alexander adding the conversion.

Harris struck back to square matters when a powerful scrum earned a penalty try. Parity lasted 15 minutes and by half time Strathie had established a 19-7 lead with further tries by Conor Blackmore and Bell, the latter converted by Alexander.

As they had done in the first half, the visitors were swiftly into tryscoring action and within a minute of the restart Glenn Feighan dotted down for the bonus point try

The Inchmacoble outfit took complete control with Bell and Feighan going on to complete hattricks, while skipper Dave Smith had a double and there was one try apiece for James Kiely, Dave Alston and Tom Hall, with Alexander kicking the other points.

The win keeps Strathie five points clear of Alloa, who were 45-12 winners away to Aberdeen Wanderers.

Adam Fraser bagged two of his side’s five tries as Dunfermline posted a 34-12 win at home to Grangemouth Stags in their mid-table clash.

Division Two (Midlands) leaders Hillfoots took all five league points when they eased to a 38-0 win at home to Kirkcaldy seconds, while Blairgowrie remain in hot pursuit, six points adrift but with a game in hand, after seeing off Falkirk seconds 73-0 at JJ Coupar Park.

Carnoustie took the honours at Alloway Place, seeing off Morgan 29-20 in a hard fought encounter to remain third in the table.

Panmure returned from their trip to face Stirling County Bridgehaugh with a well earned 25-22 win to their credit, a result that will have buoyed the Broughty Ferry men ahead of their BT Caledonia Bowl final against Dundee University Medics in two weeks’ time.

Division Three (Midlands) pacesetters Howe of Fife seconds swatted aside Perthshire seconds by a 102-0 scoreline, while Dundee University Medics defeated Bo’ness 74-3.
