T in the Park festival-goer used chocolate egg to smuggle drugs

-

A reveller attempted to smuggle ecstasy into T in the Park in a Kinder egg after being poisoned by drugs he took the year before.

Robbie Davidson, 23, was caught with 80 blue tablets at the Strathallan site after being stopped by police dogs.

Depute fiscal Carol Whyte told the court: “The locus was T in the Park and it was around 11.30am.

“A police drug search dog indicated that the accused might be carrying drugs so police officers detained him.

“They recovered a Kinder egg containing blue tablets in his bag. There were 24 tablets in it.

“The accused volunteered that there was more in his bag and a further 60 tablets were recovered.

“The price was around £5 to £10 per tablet, making a total of £420 to £840 value.”

Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said Davidson had decided to buy his own stash before going to the festival instead of buying them on site.

He said: “He had attended that festival for the last six years prior to this.

“The year before he had purchased ecstasy tablets at the venue and became ill. He resolved to take his own tablets with him.

“He’s normally a hard-working family man. He realised the folly of his ways and realises he has responsibilities and can no longer act in ways he did when he was younger.”

Davidson, of Irvine, Ayrshire, admitted possessing ecstasy at T in the Park, Strathallan, on July 8 2016.

Fining Davidson, Sheriff Macdonald told him: “If you can afford to purchase class A drugs, you can afford a hefty fine.”

Davidson was ordered to pay £1,500.
