Hundreds want Perth bus station to remain where it is
Hundreds of residents have signed letters stating they want Perth bus station to remain in its present location.
More than 500 people have said they object to the bus station being demolished after a letter was issued by Perth and Kinross Council stating the Leonard Street site could be developed as part of their local development plan.
The council letter, which was sent to businesses and residents in the Leonard Street area of Perth, stated the site could be developed for ‘improved bus station,’ or housing, hotel, leisure or office uses if an alternative location for the bus station is found.
Although the council haven’t issued an actual concrete plan, the move is part of their ambitious idea for a new transport hub, which would merge the bus and train stations.
One of the businesses that would be affected by any development of Perth Bus Station, the Bus’y’Bite café, has collected more than 500 letters in support of retaining the business. The café is based at the bus station and its owners, Mary and Christine Graham, praised residents for their backing.
“We managed to get over 500 signatures from our customers,” Christine Graham said.
“We have a lot of really loyal customers and it was so nice to read all those letters.
A council spokesperson said: “We’ve been in communication with tenants for renewal of their leases for another three-year term incorporating annual mutual break options. We remain in dialogue with Network Rail/Scotrail regarding the development of a medium to long-term masterplan for linked transport improvements.”
