Double injury blow for Young as Cowden widen search for striker

-

East Fife midfielder Mark Docherty could be out for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old will have to undergo surgery to cure a knee problem.

Manager Darren Young said: “There is a chance Mark could come back before the end of the campaign but at this stage I am viewing any more games we get from him as a bonus.”

Fife were dealt a further blow with the news that January recruit Craig Thomson has been ruled out for three weeks.

The 22-year-old suffered a fractured wrist against Forfar at Bayview and has been sidelined ever since.

Young said: “It is disappointing news as Craig made a really positive impact during his two appearances.

“He can turn defence into attack very quickly as he is so direct and I am looking forward to having that in our armoury.”

Meanwhile Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan’s frantic search for a striker that will score the goals that will help the Blue Brazil stay in senior football has intensified after Robbie Buchanan suffered a broken hand.

However, a cousin of French superstar Didier Drogba will not be getting a deal at the club.

The Central Park men are nine points adrift at the foot of League 2 and Bollan knows that increasing his firepower will help their chances of survival and he has been casting his net far and wide to get the right man on board.

Bollan said: “Robbie is a good threat for us. However, he will be missing for a few games so we need to get someone else on board. So far we have looked at the loan market, looked at free agents and looked at trialists but nothing has come up.”

“We did have a cousin of Didier Drogba in but he was not the quality we were looking for.

“We only have a few weeks left to sign someone and hopefully someone will pop up.”
