In-form Gayfield men eyeing Raith scalp

-

Raith Rovers are Dick Campbell’s pick to win the League One title.

But in a one-off match the Arbroath manager is confident that his promotion-chasing team can beat them.

The Red Lichties have only lost one of their last 10 games, their last result being an impressive 4-1 midweek win at Stranraer.

Catching the two full-time sides above, Raith and Ayr United, is probably beyond them but Campbell believes his side are peaking at the right time.

And, as his team selection on Tuesday night showed, he has depth in his squad that would be the envy of many rivals.

“I made four changes to the side,” said Campbell. “It was the right thing to do, which was proved by the result.

“I left my captain out on Tuesday and we had real quality on the bench last Saturday with the likes of Yule, Denholm and Linn.

“The problem I’ve now got is who do I leave out on Saturday? But I’m happy with that.

“Raith Rovers are top of the league and I think they’re going to win it.

“Unfortunately we let them and Ayr steal a march on us but we are where we are.

“We’ve got a great spirit in the camp and I’d give my lads a good chance in any game we play in this league.”

No fresh injuries were picked up in the Stranraer match, Campbell reported.
