Bluebell taking nothing for granted Injury doubts so Kay delays selection for visit of Bo’ness

- by Peter Rundo

Super League

Second-placed Dundonald Bluebell are at home to Bo’ness who, despite having reached the last eight of the Junior Cup, are unexpectedly in the lower reaches of the table.

Bluebell boss Stevie Kay will be taking nothing for granted as they look to maintain their title challenge.

Barry Sibanda and Ross Drummond are again missing, while Adam Moffat is suspended. With several other doubts, Kay delays his selection.

Thoughts of their plum Scottish Cup quarter-final will be on the back burner as Carnoustie Panmure approach today’s trip to Camelon.

Having lost only one of their previous nine clashes with the side, the Gowfers will be high on confidence, especially after last week’s excellent win over Arthurlie.

Alan McSkimming lists the same squad plus Luke McGeehan, who is available again.

This game has a 1.30pm start.

It is also back to league business for Courier Country’s other Scottish Cup quarter-finalists Lochee United, at home to Sauchie.

There were no new injuries from last week, but Kevin Buchan and Bryan Deasley are still absentees.

Hill of Beath meet Broughty at Keirs Park and the Fifers will be anxious to close the gap on their Tayside visitors.

The hosts trail the Fed in seventh by four points with three games in hand.

With Rikki Dair still out, Haws have signed experienced central defender Callum Rarity from Blackburn.

Lee Reid is also missing, and Keirs Park gaffer Kevin Fotheringham has two other rated very doubtful.

With last week’s game at Camelon called off, interim manager Jamie McCunnie arranged a midweek friendly against Kirrie Thistle and saw new signing Jordan Garden score twice in the Fed’s 3-1 win.

The former Dundee United striker will be a strong contender to start.

Meanwhile another striker, Stewart McConnachie, is available for transfer.

Inquiries should be made to interim BAJFC manager Jamie McCunnie by emailing jmccunnie83@hotmail.co.cuk

Forfar West End meet Newtongrange Star at Strathmore looking for three points that could take them off the foot of the table.

Although their 10th-placed visitors are nine points better off, West End have three games in hand, so it is far from being a lost cause for Daryl Mckenzie’s men.

McKenzie has the same squad available that trounced Deveronside in the GA Cup last week.

Jeanfield Swifts also have home advantage. With second-from-bottom Kennoway Star Hearts their guests, it is a basement battle.

The Fifers are four points worse off than Swifts, who have three games in hand, so a win would certainly ease the pressure on the Perth side.

Swifts are without defender Stuart McDiarmid.

Fortunately, Lee Deans is back from a ban.

Hearts are without Scott Young and Nathan Doig, but have new loan signing Ross Mutch available.

Premier League

There is an attractive derby at the Cainniepairt, where Downfield will be out to gain revenge for a 2-1 reversal when they last clashed with Tayport.

The Fifers may have won that game more comfortably than the score suggests but, following their 5-0 victory at Dalkeith in their last outing, the Spiders will approach the game with renewed confidence.

Kamil Kadela and Kris Rollo are missing.

Loan signings Ryan Suttie and Dayle Robertson come into contention, but Conor Ireland and Alan Tulleth are injury concerns.

Meanwhile, the Spiders are without Calvin Colquhoun and Phil Hagan.

Pleased as he was by their play at Haddington last week, the bottom line for St Andrews manager Craig Morrison is they came away empty-handed after missing a host of chances to leave any hopes of promotion hanging by a thread.

Saints must be more clinical if they are to return from Whitburn with three points. They are without Scott Lawrie and Scott Mayne.

Thornton Hibs have yet to play a league game this year, so will be keeping their fingers crossed that their game at Arniston goes ahead.

Their hosts – who for so long propped up the table – are climbing fast after being unbeaten in five, but have yet to win at home.

With last week’s game postponed, Glenrothes will be hoping today’s visit from Blackburn United goes ahead.

Boss Willie Campbell welcomes back Gavin Moffat from holiday and Craig Wallace after a spell on the sidelines.

Dion Gear is definitely out, while Callum Kinnes and Sean Simpson are rated very doubtful.

Time is running out for bottom outfit Kirrie Thistle, and victory over midtable Tranent at Westview is vital.

● Angus Adam, former president of Tayside Region and secretary of Stobswell Juniors, has died after a long illness.

A regular spectator at many grounds around the Dundee area, he will be greatly missed by his many friends.

All clubs have been asked to observe a minute’s silence before today’s games.
