No resting on laurels as Petrie takes stock

Stewart Petrie has revealed that the Montrose players and coaches have a debrief after every quarter of the season.

If they beat Berwick Rangers this afternoon, the third one of the season will come on the back of their most successful round of fixtures so far.

The League Two leaders only have 10 games to go, and Petrie said just saying that “takes the breath away a bit”.

“The approach has been to take it one game at a time,” he said. “And that won’t change.

“A lot of teams can still come with a run – as we did last season – and it’s not until the end of March that other clubs’ results start to become as important as your own.

“We always have a meeting at the end of each quarter and we’ll be doing that after this game. It gives everybody the chance to speak about what’s gone well and what we would like to change.

“Everyone gets the chance to have their say. We’re not kidding ourselves that the coaches know it all.

“If we can win at Berwick that will be our best total for a quarter, I think, and give ourselves a good platform for the last quarter.”

On today’s game, Petrie said: “We haven’t lost to them this season but they are a better team than when we played them before.

“The lads have been great to beat Stirling, Peterhead, Stenhousemuir and draw with Elgin. Hopefully we can keep that run going.”

Martyn Fotheringham is suspended, Iain Campbell and Matty Allan are injured and Craig Johnston is a doubt.
