Bluebells sunk by hat-trick

Lochee United beaten by late goal after leading twice

- PETER RUNDO

It was an afternoon to forget for Courier Country’s top flight clubs with all three in action losing.

Lochee United had a bad day at the office as visitors Sauchie twice came from behind before pinching a winner five minutes from time.

Dougie Cameron put the Bluebells in front after nine minutes from a penalty after Conor Birse was bowled over.

Despite dominating the rest of the half, the hosts went in level at the break with Connor Kelly beating substitute keeper Mark Stewart who replaced Mark Fotheringham who was injured early on.

Five minutes into the second half Cameron was on target again, scoring direct from a corner.

But, from what the Bluebells felt was a contentious penalty, Kelly equalised on 62 minutes, knocking in the rebound after Stewart saved the spot-kick.

With five minutes left, Kelly completed his hat-trick, squeezing home the winner on the counter.

Sauchie could easily have added another, but failed to hit the target from a second penalty award.

Carnoustie let a two-goal lead slip before going down 4-3 at Camelon.

A Ryan Locke own goal gave the Gowfers a 13th-minute lead and Pat Martin doubled it after 24 minutes.

But the Mariners hit back through Lewis Small and Alan Sneddon to go in level at the break. They then proceeded to take a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Ryan Kane and Sneddon’s second of the match.

A Steven Cook counter made for a nervy last 10 minutes for the hosts but they held on to post only their second win in 10 outings.

Forfar West End’s survival hopes suffered another blow, beaten 4-0 at home by Newtongrange Star.

Having had the better of a goalless first half, they found themselves three down within 12 minutes of the restart.

George Hunter, making his debut, netted twice for the Lothian side for whom Ryan Porteous was also on target before Dale O’Hara got a fourth late on.
