Gers head for Perth full of confidence

-

Jamie Murphy feels Rangers are hitting top form as the Ladbrokes Premiership season enters its final stages.

The 28-year-old attacker scored a well-taken first goal against Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday minutes before the interval.

Jon McLaughlin turned in a terrific performance in goal for the Jambos but he was beaten again by a late Russell Martin goal which sealed a 2-0 win for Graeme Murty’s side.

The Light Blues have lost only once in their last 10 games and now turn their attention to St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park tomorrow night.

Murphy, on loan from Brighton, believes the Govan men can travel to Perth with confidence.

“We believe we can win every game, and that’s part of being here,” he told Rangers’ official website.

“You are supposed to win every game, so we’ll keep going and try our best. We’re playing games and we’re playing well.

“Even the Hibs game (a 2-1 defeat on February 3), even though the result was disappointing in the second half we were much the better team.

“Apart from that game, things have been going great. We’ve been playing great football, winning games and we got the clean sheet on Saturday.”

Murphy scored in his third consecutive game for Rangers but it was his first for his boyhood heroes at Ibrox.

“It was really special for me,” said the former Motherwell player.

“I had my family here today and for them to see that is a great day for them.”

Hearts boss Craig Levein conceded that his side were well beaten in what was only their second defeat in 17 games but is looking to get back on track against Kilmarnock tomorrow.

He said: “That performance was unlike us. We didn’t do enough in the match even to get a draw.

“I am really looking forward to Tuesday now and trying to get rid of the bad taste in my mouth.”
