Farmington seal place in last eight
Forfar see off Dons but St Johnstone crash out to last season’s runners-up
Forfar Farmington progressed to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup thanks to a 3-0 home win over SWPL 2 side Aberdeen Ladies.
A goal from Cheryl Kilcoyne gave the Station Park side a half-time advantage, while second-half strikes from substitute Robyn Smith and Danni McGinley saw Farmington through in comfortable fashion.
Forfar will play Stirling University in the second round on March 25.
● St Johnstone’s women were knocked out by last season’s runners-up Celtic at K-Park in East Kilbride.
The Perth side were underdogs but had been boosted by an away win in the league to Aberdeen the previous weekend.
They went behind in the 35th minute when a Heather Richards cross was headed in off the back post by Ruesha Littlejohn.
Nicole Pullar had a free header to make it 2-0, with two late goals completing the scoring.
Manager Jason McCrindle wasn’t downhearted following the defeat.
He said: “It’s not the result we wanted but sometimes you have to admire the quality of the opposition.
“Celtic are a league above and their quality won them the game.
“Our players gave everything and I was really proud of them. The work-rate and commitment from everyone was excellent.
“We will take lots from the game and look to build on the performance.”
● In the SWFL Division One Cup East Fife defeated Westerlands 2-1 after extra-time, while Raith Rovers lost 3-2 away to Boroughmuir Thistle, also after extra-time.
● Dundee City progressed to the next round of the SWFL Division Two Cup after beating Hearts Development 2-1 away from home.
Dryburgh Athletic’s win in the same competition was even more emphatic – 12-3 at Moray. Montrose won an Angus derby 6-0 against Forfar Farmington Development.
East Fife Violets were defeated 7-0 by Glasgow Girls Development side.
