Purchased music

“As a regular Craigie reader, I have have been following stories of bridges in Dundee docks,” says Margaret Jamieson (nee Wilson). “These bridges (one or other) had to be crossed in order to reach Dundee swimming baths.

“As a school girl in Dundee I remember coming off a bus in Shore Terrace and walking through Royal Arch on my way to the swimming. I always felt rather uneasy walking over these bridges as one could see the dock water between the stepping slats.

“One bridge (so my father told me) was a lock bridge which would open and close with the tide.

“Another item I have followed regarding family shops in the city is of great interest. I remember them all, especially Methven and Simpson in Reform Street where I purchased much music and violin strings. My late aunt did like her gloves which made me think of a very nice glove shop called Henry Adam (Glover) in the High Street.

“On reading the column last week I could not believe my eyes – a lovely photograph of violinist ‘Kay’.

“I first saw this photograph when I was about 14 (I am now in my 80s). It stood on the mantelshelf in Dundee School of Music. As a young violin pupil, I always admired it.

“I have followed violin playing all my life and hope Kay’s daughter will read my story. I think I may have met this violinist on one occasion.”
