Flyers preparing for visit of on-form Storm

-

Fife Flyers are preparing for tonight’s home fixture against high-flying Manchester.

Flyers powered to a 6-2 victory in January but Ryan Finnerty’s men, who won 3-2 in the North-West in October, have since surged up the Elite League table.

They have real firepower with four players in the league’s top five points scorers, while Mike Hammond tops the league’s scoring charts for all competitions.

The former Braehead Clan player is in his third year as a professional having split his first year in the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) between Cincinnati Cyclones, where he was a team-mate of Flyers’ netminder Andy Iles, and Brampton Beast.

Hammond is on fire this campaign, bagging 28 goals and 50 assists from 48 games for 78 points.

Flyers were due to play Gardiner Conference rivals Edinburgh Capitals on Wednesday, but due to the adverse weather the game was postponed.

Meanwhile last night’s Dundee Stars away game against Nottingham Panthers was postponed.

Coach and general manager Omar Pacha said: “It’s an unfortunate situation. We really wanted to play this game as it was ideal for our schedule.

“In this occasion the safety of the players comes first.”

The rescheduled game will take place on Tuesday March 6.

The Stars’ next match is Edinburgh Capitals away tomorrow evening.

Elsewhere Edinburgh are due at Coventry Blaze tonight while Braehead Clan are due to host Sheffield Steelers.
