Amateur championship is Blairgowrie bound

The Scottish Amateur championship returns to Blairgowrie Golf Club this year.

And club managing secretary Steven Morgan has praised Scottish Golf for embracing both courses at the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup venue.

The event will be staged over Lansdowne and Rosemount from July 31 to August 5.

“Given the quality and range of golf courses across Scotland it is a real coup to be invited to present the Scottish Men’s Amateur again, for the third time in the last seven years,” said Morgan.

“A 264-strong field will tee-up on day one, with the first two rounds played over Lansdowne and Rosemount.

“Then the top 64 will play matchplay format over Rosemount for the rest of the week.

“At 6,600 yards, Rosemount may be short in comparison with some of the giants of today’s game but more thought will be required from tee to green, with risk and reward and strategy coming to the fore.

“I think it is a great call by Scottish Golf.”

European Tour and Ryder Cup player star Andy Sullivan captured the 2011 strokeplay title at Blairgowrie.

Morgan was speaking as the Perthshire club announced an innovative “Premier Partner” package with financial advice and investment firm Carbon Financial Partners.

The Perth-based company’s farreaching support includes backing for initiatives aimed at nurturing the next generation of golfing talent at the club which produced European Tour rookie Bradley Neil.

Youngsters Cormac Sharpe, and the Graham brothers, Connor and Gregor, are among those making their mark on the Scottish junior scene.

Welcoming the tie-up with Carbon, Blairgowrie captain Brian Wesencraft said: “This is a first for the club, bringing together two respected, award-winning brands.

“We will be working closely with Carbon and they will be supportive of our various junior golf initiatives.”

This season, club scorecards will feature the Carbon logo and their European Tour ambassador Richie Ramsay.
