Energy firm announces £180K windfall for community groups
Six transformational Perthshire projects will share more than £180,000 of funding from energy giant SSE.
The Perth-based company’s Sustainable Development Fund will help deliver a range of community-led initiatives including a new woodland walk at Innerpeffray, a playpark at St Fillans and a skills development programme for S5 and S6 pupils.
One of the projects supported by the fund is Remake Scotland, which has received £50,000 to help with a training and workplace employability programme for disadvantaged young adults.
The programme will focus on three distinct areas of retail, furniture and creative delivery.
It will run for three years and will help young people – who are often facing financial hardship, mental health issues and an unstable time at home – take responsibility for their future direction and wellbeing.
Working with community partners including Developing the Young Workforce, Crieff Learning Centre, Perth College UHI and Crieff High School, Remake Scotland intend to offer three employability placements per year.
Fiona Gilbert, development manager of Remake Scotland, said: “The generous support from the SSE Sustainable Development Fund means Remake can continue to offer development opportunities for local vulnerable and disadvantaged local young people by investing in life skills and livelihoods.
“Young adults struggle to gain opportunities, as a lack of experience stands in the way of employment.
“Remake is committed to investing in young people by building confidence, skills and ability.”
