Courier Country a great breeding ground for some of the nation’s most talented musicians

Charlotte Brimner is far from the only famous musician to hail from Courier Country.

One of the members of the world’s greatest rock bands was born in Forfar and raised in the village of Kirriemuir.

AC/DC lead singer and cosongwrit­er Bon Scott moved to Melbourne, Australia, with his family aged six, where he later joined the band formed by fellow Australian-Scots brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.

Dougie Maclean, the man behind the iconic anthem Caledonia, was born in Dunblane. He now lives in Dunkeld.

The lead singer of Deacon Blue, Ricky Ross, was born in Dundee and attended the High School.

Edwyn Collins of pop rock band Orange Juice was raised in the city after his father moved the family from Edinburgh for a job as a lecturer at Duncan of Jordanston­e College of Art and Design (DJCAD).

Meanwhile, The View, fronted by controvers­ial frontman Kyle Falconer, formed in Dundee in 2005.

Danny Wilson were also a product of the city. The band is best known for the 1988 single Mary’s Prayer, which reached number 3 in the UK charts.

Singer-songwriter and musician Michael Marra was known as the Bard of Dundee.

Funk and R&B group Average White Band met and formed at DJCAD in 1972.

Leader singer of The Associates, Billy Mackenzie, was born in Dundee and raised in Stobswell.

And Placebo frontman Brian Molko grew up in the city after moving there as a young child.

Northern Irish band Snow Patrol formed at Dundee University in 1993.

Rocker Kate Victoria Tunstall – KT Tunstall – was born in Edinburgh but was raised in St Andrews by her adoptive parents.

Hard rock group Nazareth hail from Dunfermlin­e and were formed in 1968.

Stuart Adamson, also from Dunfermlin­e, formed the punk rock band Skids in 1977 before going on to establish rock band Big Country four years later.

Perthshire MP Pete Wishart was also a member of Big Country before joining Runrig.

New Seekers star Eve Graham hails from Auchterard­er in Perthshire.

Her band released I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing, which was written for CocaCola’s first internatio­nal marketing campaign.

The song’s popularity led to the band representi­ng the UK in the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, coming second.
