Dods looks for repeat of battling performance

Brechin City’s league position hasn’t changed since they last welcomed Dundee United to Glebe Park.

But their opponents’ certainly has. Brechin were bottom then and they’re bottom now.

United, however, have slumped down the league from first to fourth since that clash at the end of November.

It was arguably the first eye-opener Csaba Laszlo got as United boss, and Darren Dods is hoping that his parttime team give him another one today.

After going in at half-time one goal to the good, the Tangerines failed to cope with the battle which Brechin turned the contest into after the break.

Dods said: “Hopefully we’ll play to our strengths again.

“If we play to their strengths we’ll be in trouble because they have got some class players. Scott McDonald has played in the Champions League and guys like Willo Flood have been at the top level.

“I think Csaba’s words after that game were ‘they made it very difficult to play football’, which was good for us.

“There have been a lot of changes to their team since then and he’s lost two good players in Scott Fraser and Fraser Fyvie through injury.

“When they’re at their best they are a very good team but we have to make sure we don’t let them play like they want to and stop their passing game.”

The Glebe Park pitch shouldn’t be a problem for United.

“It’s looking good,” said Dods. “It’s dried out well and there hasn’t been a game played on it for a month.”

Andy Jackson and Paul McLean are injured, with Willie Dyer and Aron Lynas suspended.
