High-stakes encounter for Glebe Park men

-

Brechin boss Darren Dods is looking for his side to grab a win at Dumbarton that would break their duck for the season and give a glimmer of hope of survival.

The Glebe Park men are 17 points adrift of the Sons, but Dods believes the gap on the pitch is much closer.

“There has not been much between ourselves and Dumbarton in the two games between us this season,” he said.

“In the first game we were leading until we had a man sent off and they scored two late goals.

“In the second, a cross bounced up in an awkward fashion and hit one of our players for an own goal in the last minute. That kind of sums up our luck this season.”

Dods added: “We know that only one result gives us any chance of catching Dumbarton, and even then that chance is only a thin one.

“A draw or a defeat will see us coming very close to sealing our fate.

“We have that motivation and they have the motivation of getting the result that could kickstart a move back up the way, so there is plenty to play for.”

Willie Dyer and Aron Lynas are suspended for Dods’ side, with Ryan McGeever, Paul McLean and Andy Jackson out injured.

Dumbarton manager Stephen Aitken said Brechin have been competitive all season and are inching closer to ending their barren run, so his side have to be on their guard.

“A win for them would give them the belief that they can catch us,” he said.

“However, a win for us gives us increased belief that we can catch Inverness Caledonian Thistle.”
