Screams heard as man locked victim’s head between his knees

-

A Perth man attacked his partner’s brother after a row about a mobile phone got out of hand.

Colin Gettler gripped the man’s head between his knees, cutting off his breathing.

Police were called after neighbours heard shouts and screams from the property where the brother and sister were living.

Perth Sheriff Court heard Gettler, 29, of Bute Drive, Perth, had been in an on/off relationship with the woman for three-and-a-half years.

Depute fiscal John Malpass said trouble flared after the accused began arguing with her about her mobile phone.

“The accused pulled his partner from the sofa and took her mobile phone off her,” Mr Malpass said.

“He went into the kitchen and removed the phone sim card and began shouting and swearing.”

The woman’s brother became “distressed”, prompting Gettler to grab his head between his knees.

Gettler was arrested the following day.

He admitted assaulting the woman at a property in Gray Street, Perth, on May 28 last year by pulling her from a sofa and struggling with her.

He also pled guilty to assaulting her brother by locking his head between his knees, restricting his breathing.

Sentence was deferred until April 18 for background reports.

Meanwhile, Wayne Parry, 37, of Gateshead, Newcastle, will stand trial on June 18. He denies striking a man on the head with a glass to his permanent disfigurement on October 4, 2015, at Mackays Hotel, Atholl Road, Pitlochry.
