Local firms scoop tourism prizes
Perthshire has claimed a double victory at a tourism awards ceremony.
Two local businesses picked up accolades at the Scottish Thistle Awards in Edinburgh.
The event, established 25 years ago and sponsored by Fishers, aims to celebrate success and innovation across the country’s tourism sector.
Moor of Rannoch won the region’s first prize to be named Most Hospitable Hotel.
Judges praised the Highland Perthshire establishment for its hands-on and personal approach to customer service, which includes meetings guests at the local station. There was also recognition of the hotel’s commitment to supporting school leavers, sustainability and locally sourced produce.
Owners Stephanie and Scott Meikle said: “We are delighted to have been recognised by VisitScotland as the Most Hospitable Hotel.
“Our small team strives to give all of our guests the best possible experience of true Scottish hospitality and it is fantastic for their efforts to be rewarded with this recognition.”
Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery claimed the Best Visitor Attraction gong, beating competition from DogWalk Brewery Tour, Summerhall Distillery, Culloden Battlefield and Heads of Ayr Farm.
The whisky distillery earned plaudits for its social media engagement and reach, with the creation of a new app and a hashtag campaign.
