Dundee figure skater Natasha McKay will compete in her second World Championships this week.

The 23-year-old two-time British champion is in Milan, looking to round off a highly successful season.

Natasha recently competed at the Challenge Cup in the Netherlands where she posted a personal best short programme score of 54.91.

The event begins on Wednesday. Team GB Olympic coach Simon Briggs believes McKay is ready to continue her progression on the world stage.

He said: “We are extremely proud of Natasha and the commitment she has shown to her training and her competitions this year.

“This season has been another huge step up, with more personal best scores and two more international medals brought back to Dundee.

“We are confident that she is ready and prepared to compete with the best skaters in the world in Milan.”

Meanwhile, another Dundee-based skater, Conor Stakelum, 24, retained his Irish Senior men’s title.

It was his fifth consecutive national success.

The Dublin native re located to Tayside in 2014 to train as part of the group of elite figure skaters at the Dundee Ice Arena.

This win marked the end of a successful 2017/2018 season for Conor, which saw him compete in international events in Germany, Bulgaria, the UAE, and the Netherlands, as well as qualify to compete at his first European Figure Skating Championships in January.

Briggs said: “Conor has gone from strength to strength this season.

“Qualifying for the European Championships was the main goal, and that was achieved at his first event in Germany in September.

“We are looking forward to a good few months of training and camps now to prepare for next season.”
