Duncan may have gone in other direction

-

Police have explored the possibility Duncan Sim walked off in the opposite direction to St Andrews town centre on the night he went missing.

“We know that he left the club just after 11pm,” said Chief Inspector Steven Hamilton.

“There are some suggestions that he left the rugby club and turned away from the direction of St Andrews – but again that’s not to say that we are going to completely focus on that one direction.

“It’s entirely possible that Duncan has tried to make efforts to come back into the St Andrews area, hence the reason we’ve also got a substantial number of officers involved in CCTV capture and review.”

Over the weekend, Coastguard teams were brought in to search the Guardbridge area, while army personnel, believed to be from Leuchars Station, have been combing the countryside,

Mr Hamilton said: “Clearly a fit young man like Duncan could travel a fair distance.

“We have had assistance from the Coastguard and from Police Scotland’s helicopter, which has covered a significant area of the Fife coastline.

“There is a large rural area outside St Andrews that we have to cover to try to make sure we do everything possible to find Duncan safe and well, and every assistance we can get we have accepted.”

Police Scotland thanked the Sim family for supporting the search effort.

Mr Hamilton confirmed there had been no contact with Duncan since just after 11pm last Wednesday.

Since then, Mr Sim has made no attempt to use any mobile devices or access his bank account.

Mr Hamilton added: “Search teams will be continuing to work for the foreseeable future, until we find Duncan safe and well.

“I would appeal for members of the public within St Andrews to check their gardens, outbuildings, vehicles – anything that a person could find themselves in – and contact us if they have any concern about any areas that have not been checked or can’t be checked.”
