Man in serious condition after being stabbed in lunchtime attack CLAIRE WARRENDER
Police descend on area and arrest man in connection with incident
Armed police swooped on a Fife town yesterday after a man was stabbed.
Around 10 police vehicles descended on Buckhaven following the incident at around noon.
The victim, named locally as 27-yearold Tam McCabe, was said to be in a serious condition in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, last night as officers continued their investigations.
Locals were shocked to see up to 40 uniformed and plain-clothed officers arrive in Factory Road, where an armed response unit and police with dogs were seen entering and leaving the block of flats where Mr McCabe lives.
The street was cordoned off for more than three hours as shocked locals looked on.
More police were stationed at the Buck & Hind pub in the Muiredge area of the town and the car park there was coned off.
Residents said the field between Factory Road and the pub was “swarming” with police following the lunchtime attack.
Police confirmed a man had been arrested and it is understood further arrests were expected.
One local woman said police activity was a fairly common occurrence in the area but not on the scale seen yesterday.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before,” she said.
“It was crazy scenes.
“One minute it was all quiet and the next time I looked there were about 10 police cars and vans and no one could get into the street.
“They were all coming and going at a flat up the road.”
Another resident said: “The boy was stabbed and he was taken away in an ambulance.
“I really hope he’ll be OK.”
He added: “I don’t know if he was stabbed at his house and then ran across the field or if it happened up near the pub.”
Police Scotland said the victim had been seriously injured.
In a statement a spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife attended the Muiredge area of Buckhaven around noon on Tuesday March 20 following a man being seriously injured.
“A man has been arrested in the Factory Road area in connection with this and enquiries are ongoing.
“The community are thanked for their cooperation and we’d urge anyone with information about this incident to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1268 of March 20 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
