Social enterprise success

-

A former bank employee put his money where his mouth is and created what is believed to be the only venture of its kind in Scotland.

Tim Mart, 39, of Milnathort, founded the social enterprise, Know You More, just over two years ago and is now celebrating the Year of Young People with a long list of clients and a network of resources all over the UK and beyond.

Know You More uses virtual platforms to teach real-life skills to 18 to 30-year-olds with the aim of boosting their career chances by developing their self-confidence, resilience, decision-making and other “soft” skills.

Profits are then ploughed back into charitable organisations that help young people for whom life is challenging.

St Andrews University is among the organisations that use Know You More’s coaching programmes to help equip their students with the skills they’ll need for a life beyond the campus, while property firm Thorntons is one of the clients whose employees have benefited.

Mr Mart worked in financial services with a leading banking group for a number of years, but always nurtured a dream of taking control of his own destiny.

“I gained a professional coaching qualification but soon realised that most courses were aimed at senior managers, whereas my interest lay in supporting young people,” he said.
