Memories and memorabilia to appeal to visitors of all ages

-

Blairgowrie and Rattray Heritage Group has announced details of an event to be held in Blairgowrie Library over Easter weekend.

Ian Richards, group chairman, said it would be displaying a wide range of items and artefacts, of local and general interest and chosen to appeal to visitors of all ages.

Digitised photographs from the Fred Oudney collection and video presentations of the Reform Street print works will be on show during the Our Heritage weekend, as well as personal recollections by the Blethers Group.

Culture Perth and Kinross is also sharing items from its collections depicting 100 years of Victorian life, 20th Century home life and toys from the 1950s and 60s.

“The collections will be interactive in nature with visitors encouraged to handle items,” said Mr Richards.

“Other items of local interest will include period domestic electrical goods, the famous lion’s claw cufflinks made locally from the unfortunate escapee zoo lioness, Milne’s camera, and the famous Monarch of the Glen.”

Aileen Stackhouse’s Platform 2018 art exhibition will also be on display in the library.

Mr Richards said the weekend’s activities would be “merely a taster”.

“The group’s long-term objective is to secure premises that will house a permanent heritage centre for our town,” he added.

“Public support will be paramount in achieving this and short questionnaires will be available that seek to gauge opinion and to gather ideas from the public.”

Our Heritage opens on Friday, March 30, and runs for four days from 10am to 4pm each day. Admission is free.
