Dundee energy firm lays foundations for growth

go sustainable: Firm makes Scottish deal for innovative foundations system using galvanised steel screws

A Dundee energy and construction company has secured the Scottish rights to an innovative system for laying building foundations.

Go Sustainable, a commercial joinery and energy efficiency specialist, is the exclusive installer of Stop Digging, which uses ground screw foundations.

The system takes five minutes a screw to install at around a third of the cost of digging out and casting traditional concrete foundations.

It creates strong foundations without the need for heavy, noisy machinery, skip hire or extensive ground clearance.

For clients requiring temporary structures, the ground screws can also be removed and installed elsewhere, with no trace of use or surface damage left on the original location.

With training complete and contracts signed, GoSustainable managing director Callum Milne believes the collaboration will greatly strengthen the company’s services portfolio.

He said: “The Stop Digging system can be installed quickly, efficiently, allyear round and at a fraction of the cost of conventional foundation systems, even in areas with limited access.

“It complements our company’s offering and our commitment to innovation and sustainability as the system has virtually no environmental impact.

“There is no digging involved or a need to remove large quantities of existing soil, therefore no mess or waste for landfill, and no need for pouring extensive concrete foundations.

“With savings on labour time and the ability to keep working whatever the weather, it’s also a cleaner and more affordable alternative to traditional foundations, meaning less cost and more convenience.”

Stop Digging was founded in the UK by managing director Darryl Gregory in 2014, under licence from the Swedish parent company which has been trading since 2012.

The galvanized tapered steel screws are available in different lengths and diameters.

When driven into the ground, they form a solid platform on to which posts, other items of landscape architecture or a structural framework for a building can be securely and permanently affixed.

Mr Gregory said: “There is a clear synergy between Stop Digging and the other services offered by GoSustainable, and the staff show a positive, hardworking, can-do attitude.”
