Harley eyes trophy to round off big season

-

Rob Harley is looking to cap off a memorable year by lifting the Guinness PRO14 silverware at the end of the season.

Although they suffered just a second loss of the campaign, Glasgow’s defeat to Munster last time out was a memorable occasion for Harley, who became the most-capped player in Warriors’ history.

The flanker racked up his 178th appearance for his home town club and then signed a new deal to keep him at Scotstoun until 2020.

After years of watching the Warriors as a youngster, Harley is now living his dream in Dave Rennie’s squad and is looking to cap a memorable few months by lifting the PRO14 title, with Glasgow top of Conference A and destined for a semi-final.

“It’s hard to sum up,” he said of his time at the club. “I think about when I came through as a young player, just trying to learn everything about the game.

“Over my career I have played with hundreds of amazing players and in the squad we have always had great guys.”

He added: “It is home for me. I enjoy playing at the club and with these guys, and I think this season we have the chance to go on and win the league and I see that in every season I’ve been here; we’ve hopefully gone forward.

“We have the chance to go on and win the league and I’m excited about doing that.”

With the Six Nations now over, Glasgow’s position has been strengthened by the return of several – but not all – of their internationals ahead of their next outing against Zebre tomorrow, and their return, Harley says, will be a boost to the whole squad.

“It’s big that we have back our guys from Scotland – that’s a big boost for the squad and everyone is raring to go and looking forward to finishing strongly at the end of the season,” he said.

“We have Zebre this week and that’s an exciting challenge for us. It’s exciting to get back on the field together.”
