Weir issues warning as Loons seek win

-

Forfar are looking for a win today that will inch them ever closer to remaining in League 1 without any drama down at Stranraer.

The Station Park side sit eighth, four points clear of Albion Rovers and five ahead of Queen’s Park with manager Jim Weir warning his players that despite the hosts looking to be out of the promotion race, they are a side full of spirit.

Weir said: “Arbroath and Alloa looked to have things tied up in the top four so Stranraer are now very much a long shot to make the promotion play-offs. However they are still giving it everything they can to win games as was seen at Arbroath last weekend. They were two down early on and turned things around to win 3-2.

“They will take a huge boost from that and will look to start off against us in the manner they ended at Gayfield. We are going there after a good win over East Fife and it would be great to get another win under our belts.

“In our position we cannot afford to think that Stranraer have nothing to play for as we are still a good number of points short of safety.”

The Loons enjoyed a 5-1 success over the Stair Park side in February with Weir saying: “That was a terrific afternoon for us as we played really well and took advantage of Stranraer having an off day. It was the opposite of what happened on our last trip to Stair Park where they won 3-0.

“Back in February they were going through a transition as they lost a number of experienced players and their replacements were just finding their feet. They look to have done that judging by last Saturday’s result.”

Andy Munro misses out through suspension, Michael Kennedy and Marc Scott remain on the sidelines due to injury and Mark Millar is a doubt.

New recruit Dean Brotherston could start after getting 90 minutes under his belt in a midweek under-20 game.
