Double celebration for high achieving Scouting brothers

-

It was a double celebration at the 1st Kinross (St Serfs) Scouts, with brothers Daniel and Ryan Shah both achieving the highest awards within their Scout sections.

Daniel, 13, was given the Chief Scout’s Gold Award for completing a variety of activity badges and all nine challenge awards.

These included creative and outdoor tasks as well as expedition and teamwork activities, culminating in a significant personal challenge.

The award was presented by Scout leader Matt Newton and group Scout leader Dave Sparling.

Older brother Ryan, 19 was presented with his Queen’s Scout Award, the highest award young people can work towards in the Scout movement.

To achieve this Ryan had to gain his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and then complete a further six challenges with a focus on values, community and international Scouting.

As a Beaver leader, Ryan undertook some of these in a leadership role with his colony and was also involved in an environmental volunteering project at Loch Leven.

Ryan is also a member of Perth and Kinross District Scout Network, which is involved in Scouting activities for 18 to 25-year-olds.

Alison Wilson, district Scout network commissioner presented his award.

Later this month Ryan will travel to Windsor to take part in the National Scout service and parade for all Queen’s Scout recipients this year.

Mr Sparling said he was proud that Ryan was continuing the strong tradition in the group of completing the Queen’s Scout Award.
