Man took secret snaps of women

-

A Polish bus driver who secretly photographed women and schoolgirls, zooming in on their breasts and bottoms, was ridiculed yesterday for claiming he just wanted to show his wife that Scottish girls wore school uniforms.

Grzegorz Golebiowksi snapped women and girls on the Stirling University campus, at Stirling bus station, and in the streets.

Over 17 months, he amassed a total of 3,566 images of up to 40 women aged from their teens to the 30s, focusing on their breasts, buttocks, legs and genital areas, Stirling Sheriff Court was told.

He was caught after going into the Thistle Marches Shopping Centre, near Stirling Bus Station, while on a midafternoon break, and secretly filming a group of schoolgirls with his mobile.

Prosecutor Susan Campbell said: “The nature of the photographs and the clandestine manner in which they were taken would suggest this was done for sexual gratification.”

Golebiowksi, 59, of Polmaise Avenue, St Ninians, Stirling, pleaded guilty on indictment to committing a breach of the peace by filming and photographing females, whose identities remain unknown, without their knowledge or consent.

The offences were committed between June 13 2015 and November 28 2016.

Bobby McCormack, defending, said: “He was taking them because he thought the girls and women were beautiful.

“He said he wanted to show his wife that people wore school uniforms – an explanation that the writer of the social inquiry report dismisses as incredible.”

Submitting that Golebiowski should not be placed on the sex offenders register, the solicitor added: “I accept his behaviour is strange, but it doesn’t amount to a sexual deviance that the public requires to be protected from.”

Miss Campbell retorted that it was “concerning” that many of the images were taken as “closeups of the body parts already referred to”.

Sheriff William Gilchrist continued Golebiowski’s bail until June 14, for an evidential hearing on whether he should be placed on the register. He could also then be jailed. Golebiowksi no longer works for First Bus.
