Cowden boss asks for more of same

-

Cowdenbeath are out to ensure that their increasing hopes of avoiding finishing bottom of League Two will not take a hit when they host a Montrose side aiming to go to the top of the table.

A 1-0 win over Clyde on Saturday saw Gary Bollan’s improving side pull to within seven points of Berwick Rangers and Edinburgh City with Bollan out to cut that gap further.

Bollan said: “The fight most certainly goes on.

“We lost to Clyde 3-0 a fortnight ago but I said after that game that we had played well and deserved something. In fact we have been playing well for a few games now and it was good to reward another fine performance with a win at the weekend.

“Bryan Gilfillan and Jamie Pyper were superb at shackling David Goodwillie at the weekend and they will need to be just as good to take care of the strikers that Montrose have.

“We were strong in midfield and creative up front so all I will ask from my players for this game is for the same again.”

Bollan added: “We are showing a lot of spirit and a lot of hard work.

“We will need those qualities in abundance against a Montrose side who are aiming for the prize of going top.

“Montrose had a great result on Saturday when they defeated Stirling 5-0 and they will challenge us hard for the three points that will see them lead from the front.

We will challenge them hard for the points that we need for our purposes. There is plenty at stake.

“They are a good side and have a good manager in Stewart Petrie who has them very well organised.

“I am sure that they will be coming here knowing that if they want to go above Peterhead then they have to play well and that shows the improvements that we have made.”

Brandon Luke, Blair Malcolm and David Cox are all expected to shake off knocks to feature.
